Welcome to Frango -Petersham Charcoal Chicken
Traditional Portuguese Style Restaurant & Takeaway
The Frango restaurant started in Petersham, in the heart of Sydney’s Portuguese community, originally named Petersham Charcoal Chicken with the flashing Frango sign. Luis and Ana Fernandes with son Luis Junior opened the humble Portuguese charcoal chicken shop in early 1989. Creating unique flavours by fusing the tastes from Joses’ Angola (Africa), heritage and the traditional cooking techniques of their Maderan (Portugal), upbringing the Fernandes family created a charcoal phenomenon. Increasing in demand and reputation the takeaway shop expanded to include a casual dining restaurant and then in the 90’s a full al la carte restaurant was added upstairs.
In 2008 the Fernandes family led by Luis Jnr and wife Tanya, opened a second restaurant and takeaway shop in the growing suburb of Bella Vista in the greater western district of Sydney. Replicating the food and cuisine of the original Petersham shop and giving the family business a much needed modern makeover. Rebranding the Business name to “Frango” - meaning Chicken in Portuguese, and synonymous with the original Petersham chicken shop, the business is gearing up to replicate its quality homestyle food, generous servings and traditional taste.
Now in 2010, following the success of the Petersham and Bella Vista stores, the Fernandes family are expanding to the eastern suburbs of Sydney. The new Rose Bay store is due to open in mid November of this year.
