The Frango restaurant started in Petersham, in the heart of Sydney’s Portuguese community, originally named Petersham Charcoal Chicken with the flashing Frango sign.
Luis and Ana Fernandes with son Luis Junior opened the humble Portuguese charcoal chicken shop in early 1989. Creating unique flavours by fusing the tastes from Joses’ Angola (Africa), heritage and the traditional cooking techniques of their Maderan (Portugal), upbringing the Fernandes family created a charcoal phenomenon.
Increasing in demand and reputation the takeaway shop expanded to include a casual dining restaurant and then in the 90’s a full al la carte restaurant was added upstairs.
